Affordable Fine Dining at Its Best: “The Tribute to Michael Jackson” Prix Fixe Dinner
Las Vegas on a non-stop, year-round basis offers an impressive mélange of dining experiences for tourists and locals alike. Not everyone comes to Vegas in a private jet, however, and some of the finer establishments can be financially daunting or inaccessible.
Not so at Charlie Palmer Steak at the Four Seasons Hotel. The “Tribute to Michael Jackson” prix fixe dinner menu that is being offered indefinitely in conjunction with the Michael Jackson ONE show at Mandalay Bay is one that has to be sampled to be believed.
At $48.00 per person it’s a virtual steal when one considers that not only is there a “bottomless glass” wine pairing included, there is also the elegance of the establishment to consider, and the superb service and attention of a highly trained and experienced staff.
Maître D Pierre Bouyer sets the tone for a memorable evening. Impeccably dressed and with one of those charming accents that makes you really wish you had paid attention in French class, he signals right off the bat with his natural warmth that, while you may be in a world renown chef’s restaurant, you are there not to be intimidated but to relax and enjoy your evening.
The menu selections are as follows:
Prosciutto Wrapped Romaine Hearts / Marinated White Anchovies
*Brentwood Corn Chowder
Bristol Bay King Crab / Jalapeno Bacon / Cilantro Chips
Tenuta Sant’Antonio / Garganega / Scaia / Veneto / Italy / 2011
*Charred Bone-In Filet Mignon
Green Garlic Pomme Puree/ Black Truffle Natural
Organic Fed California Chicken Breast
Zucchini Terrine / Burrata Stuffed Squash Blossoms
Pan Seared King Salmon
Dungeness Crab Risotto / Meyer Lemon Crumble
Andezon / Grenache Blend / Cotes-du-Rhone / France / 2010
*Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar
Caramel Ice Cream / Dark Chocolate Sauce
*Hawaiian Coconut Crème Brulee,
Passion Glazed Pineapple / Candied Crisps
GM and Wine Director Adam Curling did not skimp nor cut any corners in his selection of the “bottomless glass” wine pairings (noted above). Any true wineau will know these are not mere “table wines” by any stretch of the imagination.
The wines are perfectly married to each course. Standing alone they would gratify even the most picky and pretentious of palates. Curling is happy to answer any questions a guest may have about the heritage of each wine. And he does so with obvious enjoyment and without an ounce of condescension.
This $48 limited menu offering should not be trivialized as a “dining deal” but more of a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fine dining affordably—and at its best. – Christine McKellar
*These were our selections from the menu. The filet did melt in the mouth. The soup should be served by the gallon and by itself-it was delicious! The Caesar Salad was crisp and delightful. The desserts almost started a fork war. The Hawaiian Coconut Crème Brulee is what coconut should be all about. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar…well, it has to be tasted to be believed.
