‘Memories Are Made of This’: Deana Pays Tribute to Famous Dad
Deana Martin once again graced the stage at the Southpoint Hotel & Casino, May 29-31, after a two-month tour in Australia. The diminutive daughter of la voce dolce, Dean Martin, Ms. Martin was backed by a stellar 16-piece orchestra during her 90-minute show as she paid homage to her idolized father and an era that symbolized smoky romances, chilled martinis, and live TV variety shows.
Dressed in a stunningly beautiful semi-strapless, off-the-shoulder, dazzling diamante-studded, full length red gown (yes, it was THAT fabulous and the petite performer is one of the rare women who has the figure to do justice to such a gown), Ms. Martin infused humor and warmth into her monologues much to the delight of a packed Dean Martin fan-based audience.
Between renditions of beloved and enduring classic hits made famous by Dino, Sinatra, Bobby Darin and others, Ms. Martin shared memories, quips and anecdotes, and a video montage about her adolescent life with a timeless legend: A life that while glamorous was not nearly as rewarding as the one she’s carved out for herself along with her “handsome husband”, producer John Griffeth, their children and grandchildren.
An accomplished actor, singer and author (2004- Memories Are Made of This: Dean Martin Through His Daughter’s Eyes), Ms. Martin is a life-long health enthusiast, a passion that led to a top-selling workout video, The Deana Martin Total Body Workout, and The Deana Martin Show, whose 40+ episodes were broadcast on cable TV throughout California in the 1990s. While in her early 20’s, Ms. Martin was a frequent guest on The Dean Martin Show.
Included in Ms. Martin’s repertoire at the Southpoint: “Mr. Sandman”, “You’re Nobody (til Somebody Loves You)”, “Strangers in the Night”, “Beyond the Sea”, “True Love” (recorded in the studio with a Dean Martin voice over and accompanied by a touching video), “Memories Are Made of This”, “That’s Amore”, “That’s Life”, “Bye Bye Blackbird”, “Ain’t That a Kick in The Head”, “Quando Quando Quando” and “Everybody Loves Somebody”.
Ms. Martin has three albums available on CDs and iTunes; “Destination Moon”, “White Christmas”, “Volare” and “Memories Are Made Of This”.
