The MJ LIVE Michael Jackson Tribute Show is celebrating a second anniversary in the Crown Theater at the Rio Hotel & Casino on Tuesday, July 1. All net proceeds from the 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. shows will be donated to help the families of slain Metro Police Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo, and civilian Joseph Wilcox. The three local men were ambushed and killed Thursday, June 12, during a senseless rampage in the northeast Las Vegas valley.
Respective memorial services were held last week as friends, family, and the Las Vegas community mourned the untimely deaths of the victims. This writer in no manner or fashion will give ink to the depraved shooters whose profiles and apparent motives have made headlines worldwide since the incident.
The true spirit and heart of Las Vegas as a whole is generally buried in a constant blitz of social media and national and international press that focuses only on a city of extreme excesses in all arenas: primarily adult entertainment, and twenty-four hour eating, drinking and gambling frenzies. But those of us who live in Las Vegas and earn our daily bread here know differently.
Kudos to MJ LIVE co-producers Darin Feinstein and (long time Vegas resident!) Dick Feeney for showing their support and putting some of their proceeds where the need is: I imagine Tuesday’s MJ LIVE anniversary performance at heart will be more than just a tribute to Michael Jackson. – Christine McKellar
