Add An Olive To Your Irish Whiskey

In The Imbibery and Distillery by Christine McKellar

The thought of putting an olive in your whiskey may seem somewhat peculiar but for some reason it works with the Irish Cocktail. The wearin’ o that particular green is a fitting topper to a foine concoction such as this one.

The Irish Cocktail

  • 60ml Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • 2 dashes Pernod Absinthe
  • 2 dashes curaҫao
  • 1 dash maraschino liqueur
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • one olive
  • orange peel

  • Mix all ingredients and stir over ice
  • Strain into a chilled sherry glass
  • Flame a piece of orange peel and squeeze the zest over the cocktail
  • Garnish with an olive
  • At this stage it may be appropriate to raise a traditional Irish toast; “Slainte!”
