Colleen Bawn Cocktail: Pretty, Sweet & Oh So Irish!

In The Imbibery and Distillery by Christine McKellar

Depending on whose interpretation you choose to believe “bawn” is a derivative from the Irish “cailin ban” meaning darling girl or sweetheart. On the other hand, sure and the Cockney version is not fit for publishing on a PG site! Let’s stick with the sweet lass since that best describes this delightful concoction.

Colleen Bawn Cocktail

1 1/2 ounces rye whiskey

1 1/2 ounces Yellow Chartreuse liqueur

1 1/2 ounces Benedictine liqueur

1 egg

1 teaspoon simple syrup

Cinnamon for garnish

Nutmeg for garnish

Beat (or dry shake) the egg and syrup in a mixing glass.

Add the other ingredients and ice.

Shake vigorously to ensure the egg is properly mixed.

Strain into two, well-chilled cocktail glasses.

Dust with grated nutmeg and cinnamon.
