For 2020? A Crock Full of Wassail Should Do!

In The Imbibery and Distillery by Christine McKellar

Nothing is too good for the year 2020. A cleverly constructed pandemic designed to eliminate the elderly yet somehow remain benign to the youth, well organized riots sans real protesters, unimaginable voter fraud…the list is endless. One thing that remains in our control is how we approach the holiday spirt of 2020.  It’s time to bring on some good old-fashioned cheer and what could be better than the aromatic fragrance of a spiced and fruity Wassail wafting throughout the house as it simmers in a crock pot?

Keep to the recipe below for young and old to enjoy or add a thimble or two (or four or more) of your favorite rum or whiskey to the aromatic brew: chances are depending on what state or country you live in, you may not be driving ANYWHERE until next year. So, WTH? CHEERS!!!

Spiced Holiday Wassail

1 gallon  Apple Cider

4 cups orange juice

4 hibiscus tea bags

10 cinnamon sticks

1 teaspoon whole cloves

1 tablespoon juniper berries

1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, cut into slices

1 apple, sliced into rounds

1 orange, sliced into rounds

Place all the ingredients in a slow cooker and cover.

Set on high heat and cook for 3-4 hours, until the color has darkened and the fruit is soft. Remove the tea bags and serve hot. For the adult version, add your favorite rum or whiskey to your taste or inclination.
