Holiday Twinkles at Glittering Lights
Contributed by Debbie Hall
Millions of twinkling lights along a 2.5-mile course mark the return of Glittering Lights for its 21st anniversary. Nevada’s largest holiday drive-thru light show shines in the Valley at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway through Jan. 9, 2022.
It has become a tradition for locals and tourists to celebrate with the Glittering Lights holiday drive-through spectacular. The joy of spending time with family and friends while enjoying all of the festive lights and sounds creates lasting memories. There is also a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community during this special time of year.
The holiday tradition hosts different initiatives to support local charities, churches, and schools. Speedway Children’s Charities, a national organization devoted to helping children in need with chapters throughout the country, receives a portion of each ticket sold. The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities has granted millions of dollars to hundreds of children’s charities throughout Southern Nevada. Speedway Children’s Charities was founded in 1982 by Bruton Smith, Chairman of Speedway Motorsports and Sonic Automotive, as a legacy to his son, Bruton Cameron Smith, who passed away at a very young age. The Las Vegas chapter was founded in 1999. The vision of Speedway Children’s Charities is that every child has the same opportunities no matter what obstacle they are facing. This includes educational support, supplying basic needs such as a warm coat or a meal, and helping with medical, financial, and emotional needs. While enjoying holiday music, guests can enjoy cocoa and kettle corn sold by area Boy Scout Groups. Boy Scouts who participate develop interpersonal skills, money management, leadership abilities, and earn money for camp and activities. Goodwill of Southern Nevada offers a $5 discounted entry voucher for Glittering Lights with a donation of clothing or household items, helping put people back to work, especially veterans.
The spectacular drive-through features more than 600 animated and sparkling displays and The Living Nativity, presented in partnership through several churches, on select nights.
Guests can enjoy the lights from the comfort of their cars or in an open-air tram driven by Silver State Schools Credit Union. The festive area with games photo opportunities with Santa Claus is open on select December nights.
Tickets are per person and available online (recommended), and walk-up is based on availability. Visit glitteringlightslasvegas.com to purchase tickets and more info.
